Introduction:
 

• The seminar uses the frameworks of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and good corporate governance to enhance the role of the private sector, alongside government and civil society, in sustainable development and poverty alleviation. The seminar encourages broader acceptance of CSR as a vital component of corporate strategy. 



Objectives: 

• The seminar convenes companies, governments, and civil society in coalition building for successful design and implementation of integrated CSR programs. Courses and activities are geared toward development of action plans for institutional change in the field of corporate social responsibility and sustainable competitiveness. 

• At the country level: 

- the focus is on the design and implementation of appropriate policy measures and initiatives aimed at creating an environment that supports sound corporate social responsibility practices. Responsibility, transparency and accountability are emphasized as essential elements to produce a sound investment climate and more equitable development. 

• With the private sector: 
- the seminar facilitates development and implementation of sound CSR and corporate governance practices as a sustainable competitive advantage. CSR offers a systematic method for addressing the needs of key stakeholders, including the communities in which companies operate. Particular emphasis is placed on the role of business in successfully reaching the Millennium Development Goals.

• Briefly review corporate social responsibility (CSR) and its link to triple bottom line (TBL) reporting, or economic, environmental and social
• Give a precise explanation of TBL reporting
• Provide an in-depth examination of the Global Reporting
• Initiative’s set of qualitative and quantitative TBL sustainability indicators
• Review actual examples of TBL reports and who cares about the results
• Reveal a world-class example of how TBL reporting was integrated into a Balanced Scorecard for better measurement and alignment
• Provide a brief overview of the Balanced Scorecard framework
• Explore why the Balanced Scorecard is a powerful tool for managing and communicating corporate social responsibility
• Illustrate how the Balanced Scorecard can be used to align and measure corporate social responsibility efforts in the context of the larger organization strategy
• Describe how the Balanced Scorecard can enhance reporting and promote greater transparency
